What a great event! from one year to the next crazy how an event can change. This year the illuminations fell on the saturday of Halloween so I was asked to create a spooky show. This was done through a rather posh fellow who was back from the dead for one night only. Jedediah was his name and he went down a storm. What really helped was the weather as it was a really still and dry evening which does assist matters. The crowds were huge with my show filling the stands about 4 lines deep and they all got into the spirit of it immensely. All in all .. Highly successful.. Bravo old bean!!

So Derby's feste street festival delivers again. What a great event. I premiered my new show this weekend and it went down a storm. Did 2 shows to huge crowds and the general feeling was great. The first had a few elements that needed tweaking and perfecting but by the time the second show came around they had been edited and it went down fantastically. The numbers were also amazing with around 300 people at each show. Having had been working on the idea of a show that has a bit more depth to it and hopefully makes people think a little, it was great to see how that went down.
So as the nights draw in, the fires comes out. Derby Feste has come around, Derby's premier street show festival and fortunately I have been booked to do a couple of shows. How exciting!! This year sees the arrival of the Giraffe unicycle with some fire juggling on top. What an exciting turn of events. Actually feels really scary up there but you do, in theory have more time to get ready as you fall off..Hasn't happened yet..BRING IT ON!! So get down to the River Gardens in Derby and the market square at 1845 and 2100 respectively.. it's gonna be fun!!
What a great weekend. I did my first music festival on Saturday to a fantastic crowd. JUSt before the main act came on Juan Carlos was announced over the tannoy and people flocked over. The space was quite tight but the culmination was lighting the "Olympic torch basket" by clambering up a telegraph pole on the back of two strapping fellas. Exciting.. went down a storm
https://www.facebook.com/MusicintheYard?fref=ts Just wanted to quickly mention this great workshop I did last week for a primary school in the East Midlands. It was a little rural school with about 150 kids and I was booked to work with the whole school throughout the day. The weather was a little sketchy so I had to be quite flexible with the space that I used but the kids were so great; they just went with whatever was thrown at them. They focussed so well and tried so hard that it just filled me with admiration for them and makes this job the best in th world when the elements are right.
Another great element is the legacy that a day of Circus Skills can do for the kids. At the end of the day there were so many of them that wanted to get some equipment so that they could do it at home that you can really see the value of it to help a) pull kids away from their screens b) get into something that helps them exercise, and c) gives them a sense of achievement that is fundamentally really good fun to do. All in all a WIN-WIN situation. So for the first time in about 10 years the british weather got the better of me. The downpour that fell on Derby this weekend meant that there was no way that the great british public would stand and watch a show... so the authorities, in this case derby city council decided to cancel the event. This was a shame but was definitely the right thing to do. But let it be known people... ChangoFuego will work in pretty much any weather... but I guess it's really down to what weather the watchers will watch in. Here's to a glorious non monsoon-like summer. Hapy Bbq-ing!
On a more positive note, I had my first workshop delivering Circus Skills for Derbyshire Dales working in a lovely village up near Buxton. It's a really interesting programme trying to deliver part of the physical exercise program for the primary curriculum through Circus Skills. This is great in that Circus satisfies many of the pre-requisites of the physical curriculum needed to be delivered by schools but it also is something that kids can do at home, is really good fun and you don't need a huge playing field to do it on. I actually delivered this last one in a church. Kids loved it.. Teachers found that they were able to be one step of the kids so they will be able to deliver it in the future giving the project a legacy and all in all everyone had a great day. Viva Circus!! So with a load of new bookings having come in , not least a festival and compering Derby's flagship monthly covent garden type street festival, the new show is now in its final preparation to be released to the general public in May. It will comprise of a load more gags and a new introduction of song!! Were going for a bit more 'variety' but not in the traditional sense of the word.
Another very interesting development for Juan Carlos is his commission to write some music for a new show featuring the talented Miss Chevious and her new show Freckeld Mischief which will be touring the streets of the UK shortly. So the economy seems to have picked up.. Bookings are coming in thick and fast at the mo with people gearing up for Summer. Seem to be that there is more budget with schools as the workshops are really popular at the mo. Will they still have the budget AFTER the election when the belts get tightened again and the folk from Westminster can don't need to keep u s sweet and can have a squeeze again until the next election. All very interesting!.. Heres to a sunny and glorious summer just like Juna Carlos' beloved Andalucia...! OLÉ ¡
So having had a little re-evaluation of ChangoFuego's current business model.. 'the board' has decided that with the skills that Juan Carlos has developed over the years, they thought that there was a definite need for Juan Carlos' abilities as a leader and builder of teams within the corporate environment. As is evident from the action shots and the website, Juan Carlos is both a born leader and performer extraordinaire so it only made sense that those skills be put to use in the creation of a Team- building day for corporate clients.
The day will include a number of different skills being taught.. All those that are peppered throughout the site. Once a modicum of skill has been attained, the lucky participants will be party to short demonstration of Juan Carlos' show followed by a brief exploration into what it is to perform to the public. This will also be linked with a brief exploration into the range of character traits/personalities that one might encounter in the workplace, ending the day with an expose of those behaviours in a comic fashion and a short performance from all the participants. Fundamentally the day is about : Fun, Confidence, Performance, Group Dynamics and Collaboration. Ole!! So after a xmas of rest and recuperation from the busy early Xmas period, On the night of the 3rd of Jan... I had an epiphany.. A new show came to me at 4am. I got up .. crawled to my laptop and bashed the keyboard for a couple of hours. I can't divulge yet what this will look and feel like but its gonna be different, unique and a big fat load of fun.. Watch this space folks!!
