If you've never made it up tp Bolsover in Northern Nottinghamshire before , there is an amazing castle there. Every year at the end of November they have a great lantern parade. Its a great ally family friendly affair with some beautiful lanterns on show and music to help the processors beat of the cold. So this year i was booked again to provide entertainment whilst the people are congregating to get ready for the show. Anyway.. i love it.. Get up there if you can.

This weekedn saw the end of the crazy firework season which is always a busy time for fire folk.. The highligh had to be a party on saturday for 40th Fire and Ice themed party. Th weather was blustery to say the least which gave it an element of excitement but it was such great fun. The guests were fantastic and just so got into the spirit of it and subsequently we had a riot.. Had to drop a couple of the fire eating elements as the wind so string i would have definitely burnt but it mattered not. This was the testimonial I got fro the lovely Maria who was hosting.. "I booked Angus to entertain my guests at my Fire and Ice themed 40th Birthday Party in November 2014 after watching him perform at a party this Summer.I asked him to provide an external Fire Show with a comedy element and he absolutely delivered! He tailored his act to include atmospheric music, fire eating, fire spinning, uni cycling, juggling, audience participation, etc, etc! Everyone found him hilarious on the night, his acrobatic skills were superb and his Fire show was visually stunning. He was literally, the highlight of the night! A huge thank you again Angus and I will be passing your number on to the guests who already want to book you! " Really warms the cockles when you get that kind of reaction! So Saturday night was the Matlock Illuminations on the River Derwent. Actually a huge event with 1000s of people. I did 2 shows which were amazingly well attended. Crowds probably around the 250/300 mark which was great although has to be said the circumstances were challenging. Huge rainstorm just before the show which meant i was trying to unicycle on wet cobbles. In order to do this I dropped the air pressure in the tyres. This gives a little more traction but unfortunately slightly less control. This is important whilst juggling fire going around the performance circle. It was actually fine in the end but took all my skills to pull it off. Especially the fire juggling on the unicycle which demands huge precision when it comes to getting it right and not dropping.... AND then i was stuck in traffic for 45 mins trying to get out!! But hey all in a days work as a unicycling fire professional.
On another tip.. looking at trying to get onto the big performance circuit for Without Walls next year. This is an organisation that pormotes arts and culture for festivals around the UK. If i can get on those books that wil take the show up to the next level. Exciting times! OLE. So thsi weekedn was Derbys' annula Festivasl of ARTS and Culture. Once again I was lucky enough to be booked to do 2 shows for the Saturday night and from my end they wet fantastically. The weather was great , the crowds were huge and the respnse was everything I could have wanted it to be. The show was different to last years in a number of ways , the main differences being the introduction of music and having the various elements of the show choreographed to music. This did need a technician to operate but caroline Barth stepped in and did a fantastic job. Here is a little clip put together by the Derby Telegraph. You can see most of the second show on the ACTION SHOTS page of this website http://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/VIDEO-Derby-Fest-crowds-fired-ChangoFuego/story-23010942-detail/story.html After a brilliant summer compereing for Derby Cathedral Quarter Circus Saturday and performing twice everytime Juan Carlos has developed his show to a previously unknown level of confidence. The response from the public has been awesome and has allowed the development of a number of new elements to the show. These are all about to be displayed at Derbys annual street carnival Feste which will be kicking of on the 26th of September. Exciting times and with the winter and long nights ahead it feels like the perfect time to book that fireshow you've always been thinking about!! Ole..
Derby Street ShowsExciting summer ahead having been asked by Derby City Council to help programme and compere and perform on the second saturday of every month in Derby Town Centre. What they are trying to do is get an exciting feel in Derby town centre something akin to Covent Garden with Circus and street shows. There'll be a small stage by the waterfall and general fun, frivolity and silliness.
So now that the Festive time of season is here things are starting to busy up. Great to have the new PA and get the voice properly booming out over the audiences. HAve got a new show now that is in corporating music more into the routine which is all exciting stuff.
Juan Carlos on Fire! Olé
So after opening Derby's festival "FESTE" on Friday night by the river gardens, Juan Carlos moved to a fantastic spot in front of the courthouses for the second show. The first was probably to about 300/350 people and was a bigger event on a larger stage. This was great in its own way but the audience were a fair way from the fire and so it was a little distant. That said the feedback was fantastic and by all accounts people had a great time. The second show however, was a much more intimate affair on the street with about 150/200 people in what you'd traditionally describe as a busking circle. For me, it was great to go back to my street theatre roots for a bit and it felt like many of the shows that I did 20 years ago in Spain, except the shows are now way better! All in all a fantastic night of performance, so thanks Derby Feste. Here's to the next one. So what an exciting time coming up! Derby Feste, which has to be seen as a highlight of the year. Bishop's Castle's Michaelmas fair and Matlock Illuminations. All these are happening in the next month so with that in mind we now have a cracking new PA system for those massive crowds which will be turning up . This will allow me to start to use my musical spectacle, showcasing some of Juan's amazing vocal talents as well as some 'amusing/quirky' tunes to get those hips moving. Another exciting development is being ask by BBC Derby to teach one of their presenters to juggle. This will be airing on Radio Derby at 1230 Tuesday 17th september. Exciting times!
So I've just finished a week of working with the Girl Guides and what an amazing time it was. At times it was super hectic with up to 40 girls, ranging from 5-16, all doing different skills but with them all being of the fairer sex there was just no aggro just a huge amount of excitement and smiles. Not to say that boys don't do that but often little fellas like to use things as weapons and that didn't happen at all. Really well organised and just great fun to see the participants really working hard at getting the skills under control, finding it really hard and saying they "can't" and then beaming when they can!! What a great thing.
