If you’re organising an event for children then you want to make sure they have fun. And it’s a bonus if that fun involves some positive health benefits! A Circus Skills Workshops also works brilliantly for bringing groups of adults together in an environment that is challenging, collaborative and fun.
Learning circus skills is a great way to really challenge oneself, have a load of fun whilst discovering something completely new. It can:
inspire kids and adults to be more physical
encourage concentration and patience
lead to a wonderful sense of achievement
bring disparate groups together
create a great sense of shared experience
My Workshop will help ensure your event is a success I offer a Circus Skills Workshop teaching circus skills to children aged 4 and above. (also great fun for grown up children!) It is the perfect choice for Birthday Parties; Fetes; School events; Holiday clubs; Weddings; Festivals, Team building events – in fact, any event at which children, (grown-up or otherwise) are present. See Fire Blog - "Team Building" for more team building info.
The participants don’t have to have any previous experience as I am used to teaching complete beginners. If they already have some basic skills then they will be able to improve on them as there are always new tricks to learn and master.
During the workshop they will get the chance to try a variety of skills depending on what appeals to them and what is appropriate for their age and skill level. These include:
Balancing balloons/ feathers on their hands
The workshop is designed to be an open affair which can be dropped into as and when. I like to work one-to-one with small groups at a time demonstrating a skill, then showing them how to get started, then giving them the chance to practice and experiment by themselves. This suits the way we learn best and I have found it to be very effective.
If you want to watch some examples of me working with children please visit the “See Me In Action” page. I usually run the workshop for 90 - 120 mins but I am happy to extend this if we have discussed it in advance. The maximum number of children I usually work with at an individual event is 30. However, if you are planning an all-day or on-going event like a fete or a festival then I can cater for any number children that want to have a go.
My Circus Skills Workshop is best suited to the outdoors. If you are planning an indoor event then there needs to be sufficiently large space such as in a hall. It is not suitable for the average size living-room owing to the chance of breakages!
I usually require a space of about 10m x 5m as a minimum. This space will need to be kept clear before the workshop as I need about 30 minutes to set up. Apart from that you won’t need to provide me with anything else.
At the end of the workshop the kids will all have new skills to show off and impress their parents with. What level of skill they reach will obviously depend on their age, previous experience and how hard they practice on the day.
You get the benefit of 20 years of experience Because I’ve done this for so many years you will be getting someone who is both reliable and able to adapt to any situation. I’ll arrive when you want me to and will always make sure I am there in time to set up.
My style is friendly, supportive and fun and I pride myself on being able to work well with any group of children.
It’s worth noting that I am not a clown. Instead, I dress intop hat, pinstripe waistcoat, black shirt, and black trousers.
The children will all be as safe as can be
Any physical activity has some element of danger to it, but teaching children circus skills is a lot safer than playing football, for example.
The safety of the children is my number one priority and, having done so many workshops, I pride myself on taking every precaution to avoid accidents. Of course, I am fully insured with public liability insurance of £2 million.
I’ve also have a full DBS(CRB) check which just gives you that extra peace of mind.
I cover most of the country
I’m based in Derby which means everywhere in the UK (within reason!) is accessible. I do charge for my travel costs outside of a 25-mile range of Derby, but this is strictly on an actual cost basis and I make no profit from this charge.
